The Art Of Opelle

All Opelle pieces are made by hand in our atelier in Toronto, Canada. We produce our pieces in small batches paced to demand.

Opelle offers a permanent collection of our most-loved and longest reigning styles known as The Icons. They are authentic Opelle in every way: refined, classic, enduring and are always available in black. If you are new to Opelle, this is where most of our clients start. The Baby Ballet is perhaps the jewel of the permanent collection, a style that we have continued to perfect over a decade.

Opelle uses Full grain natural leathers of the highest quality possible. We source tanneries in Italy, Germany and Spain. Read about the different leathers we use and their individual characteristics here.

Twice annually in September and in March, Opelle releases a seasonal collection in new shades, new details, and with the debut of a handful of limited edition styles. These are special showpieces to add to a new favorite to your repertoire of handbags.

Yes! Some styles utilize the natural edges of the leather as we don’t use any paints, solvents or plastics to coat edges in the construction of our pieces. These details are intentional and will burnish naturally over time increasing the longevity of your bag.

We love the beauty of superior quality, full grain natural leathers. Our skins are hand-chosen for softness & quality and hand-cut to maintain their individual character. As a natural uncorrected material, variations in texture, form and color are normal and define the unique natural beauty of each piece.

While you can expect your bag to look very similar to the images online, Opelle pieces are hand-cut of natural, uncorrected leathers. Our parts, zippers & hardware are bespoke and each piece is sewn, constructed and finished by human hands. It’s normal to see some natural variations in leather grain, stitching flow, and other small details that this style of craftsmanship brings. You can also request a leather swatch to see color and texture in person before choosing your bag.

Orders & Stock Availability

We choose our colors and leathers carefully each season and don’t stock additional options. Once something is sold out it’s unlikely to be restocked. If you’ve missed out, watch for our Archive Sale held each June where we often have discontinued colors available. Sign up for our newsletter here to be in the know.

All of our available stock is listed online to allow the best possible access. The information online is current and we don’t have any additional pieces behind the scenes.

We do our best to maintain a rolling stock as production and materials allow but as a small atelier it takes time to produce each piece to the best possible standard. Permanent Collection styles will usually be restocked within 4 weeks. Seasonal colors and special editions are limited and when they sell out won’t be restocked. However, if the product page indicates a ‘Special Order’ is available, that means we have enough leather available to make that style just for you in approx 4-5 weeks time.

Special Orders are items that we either do not keep on stock or that are currently out of stock. Special Order pieces will be made especially for you and ship within 4 - 5 weeks or the date noted in the product description. Please note that we cannot make any changes or additions to the design of the piece and Special Order items are final sale and not eligible for return or exchange.

While we find that the majority of straps are perfect at default lengths we are able to make adjustments to most styles at your request. To enquire about custom strap lengths email us at before placing your order. Any changes made constitute a special order and are final sale.

Unfortunately we are unable to take custom orders or make any changes to the design of a piece beyond minor adjustments to strap lengths.

Individual measurements are located in each product listing under the description. Measurements are taken from the piece laid flat when empty. As bags are three dimensional we recommend comparing our measurements to a bag you already own.

We do our best to show colors & textures as accurately as possible but due to the many variations in monitors and browsers, colors may appear different online. If you are unsure about a leather color we always recommend requesting a swatch as this is the only way to ensure exact color representation.

Shipping & Returns

Domestic (within Canada) orders ship by Canada Post Expedited parcel. US & International orders ship by DHL Express. Orders over $400 or where items are irreplaceable will require a signature upon delivery.

In stock ready-to-ship orders will ship within 3 working days from the date they are ordered. 

Special Order pieces are made in the order in which they are received and will ship within 5 weeks of order date.

DHL Air ($30) – Receipt in 1 - 3 business days from shipment

DHL International Air ($50) - Receipt in 3 - 5 business days

All shipments are trackable. Trackings details will be sent with your shipping confirmation email as soon as your order has been dispatched and are also available in your online account on the order status page.

Any full-priced eligible item purchased from may be returned for a full refund exclusive of shipping and return fees within 14 days of receipt of shipment. Discounted items, special orders, items purchased with a promotional code, or any items marked final sale are not eligible for return or exchange.

We start working on your order as soon as we receive it, so we are unable to make any changes or modifications to an order after it has been placed and confirmed so make sure all entered information is accurate before ordering.

Original shipping fees & any duties, taxes or import fees are nonrefundable.

We ship Worldwide

Orders to Countries outside Canada and the US may be subject to import fees and/or duties. These fees are assessed and imposed by your local customs office and will vary by country. Any customs, duties or tarrifs imposed on import are the responsibility of the buyer. We are unable to effect or reimburse these costs in any way. By purchasing from you agree to responsibility for any fees.

We hold two promotions per year. Our Holiday Sale in November offers a discount on a selection of seasonal or holiday styles. Every year is different. Our annual Archive Sale held in June features pieces from our Archives, past styles and colors, original samples & one of a kind pieces. Black Permanent Collection styles and Shrunken Lamb are rarely discounted.

At this time we can not accommodate any in-person visits or drop offs. Returns, exchanges & items sent for repair or warranty must be sent to the studio by post or courier. Please contact for return shipping instructions.
